Ugly Faithful Kids
KUSHAL DEV
i’m convinced
that having your shit together is unattractive
well-behaved kids were told to suck it up
now they’re ugly and can’t help it
i’m convinced
that life is just the time you spend in between subway rides
resisting then succumbing to nature (your own, too)
life is
yawning as you walk from the F to the 2 at 14th St
and wondering why you're not the pretty man with piercings or the
pretty platform passerby that may or may not
be an influencer
i’m convinced
that subway tunnels cannot be real
they must be intergalactic timespace wormholes
projected against the 3D reality that we’ll never escape
elevators are
what you ride after braving the tunnely wind
holding a trader joe’s bag with just a bottle of limeade
i was once a confident teenager, too,
but confident teenagers become scared adults
and scared adults become angry parents
and angry parents raise well-behaved kids
who become confident teenagers
i’m convinced of change but maybe change is just
a storyteller cosplaying prophet
and i’m a believer lost
faithfully
to cult
