ADRIAN ELISE

The greenery filling the gaps in the arrangement
Outlives the simple flowers.
So sturdy is the way.
Time’s arrow marches, dissects the infinite anatomy.
She insists with me- “keep 10% of you for yourself…”
Barricades of heaven barreling, I hibernate and wait for the next parade.
She warned that an era of truth or dare will leave a woman praying;
If you can even recall the pieces of me, I once gifted you, will you honor our moment in time? Protect it with the same reverence? Will you call it beautiful with the same adoring gaze once the fat on its bones slides away?

arrested development inspiring endless
clashes of bone against bone;
inviting my propensity to counterpoint on tour.
tamed with ritual, cleansed in fire
eased over time
yet if you knead you can find those
tiny knots of brown sugar beneath my skin.
