Sky Blue

CALLIE McGILL

I painted the hallway sky-blue with you; we ignored the cracks in the wall and the cobwebs in the corner.

We thought we could make it; we lit up every room we were in; with love, we refused to hide in our back pockets.

The storm that was happening outside, we didn’t mind cause I remember that night you knocked on my window when the thunder came rolling in.

You swore you would love me until next December; goosebumps were dancing on my skin.

I had forgotten all about my ghosts still living in the back room.

I told you love was a dangerous game, but you brought out sky-blue paint instead of leaving.

Callie McGill: Writing has been a passion of mine for a long time. Edgar Allan Poe often inspires me; one of the reasons I write is to inspire others to speak when they feel like they don’t have a voice. I hope I can reach someone and inspire them with this piece.
